Bonus excerpt

Rein’s Story

Rein twirls the stiletto between his fingers, watching the railway track. A single beetle crawls upon one of the metallic rails, its bright green body gleaming in the morning sunlight.

Where the hell are they?

He’s been waiting at the outskirts of the Fey town for more than two hours, hidden in a gap between several large wooden crates. He can’t wait for this mission to be over.

Deliver the refugees to the ship, and sail back to Avalon Tower—with Alix by his side at last. He pictures her now, leaning against the ship’s guardrail, the wind toying with her beautiful red hair. He can imagine her smile as she catches him staring. A teasing glint in her bright-green eyes. Teasing… and sad. Because that’s the best they can do. Exchange hidden looks and secret smiles.

Christine & Alex

How do you usually split the writing process?

C.N. I’m lucky because Alex writes the first draft, and I usually add descriptions from there. Often, he leaves the romance sections blank for me.

Alex Before we even start writing, we outline everything together for a few weeks. When I write the first draft, I keep checking in with CN on questions I have about the draft. Once we’re both done, we sort of ping-pong the draft between us, fixing and editing it until we’re both happy with it.

Do you ever argue about the plot or writing or get annoyed at each other?

C.N. It’s a very boring answer because we have surprisingly little conflict. I personally find writing with Alex less stressful than writing by myself, because he’s less neurotic than I am.

Alex I recall only one argument, which was about a really gross scene I wrote. CN said that she feels like she needs to wash her Kindle after reading it, which… fair. We ended up removing it, because romance and… whatever it is I did there don’t mix well.
